Water quality is patient safety
A single four-hour haemodialysis session uses 120–150 litres of dialysate, and more than 95% of it is water, separated from the patient's blood only by the dialyser membrane.
RIVAMED systems produce purified water that complies with EN ISO 23500, the European Pharmacopoeia and AAMI standards, with consistent chemical and microbiological quality from the first patient of the day to the last.
How a dialysis water system works

Pre-treatment
Pre-filter, multimedia filter, twin softener, activated carbon and microfiltration remove sediment, hardness, chlorine and chloramines to protect the RO.

Reverse osmosis
High-pressure membranes reject dissolved salts, heavy metals, bacteria, viruses and endotoxins.

Distribution loop
A continuously circulating PEX-A loop with non-spill quick connectors limits biofilm. UV and endotoxin filtration are optional.

Heat disinfection
Thermal disinfection of the loop, RO and dialysis machines reduces microbial risk and keeps the system hygienic.
